The recent donation of £420 is the sum of donations made by many friends of John Crutchfield, who died last year. I have attached a recent obituary for John. John Crutchfield. Sadly, John passed away on Saturday 22nd November after a struggle against cancer. I first met John when he and his wife Chris got their new boat "Jonkris" in 1989. It was one of the last boats to be built by Springer and together we did a lot of cruising until sadly Chris was diagnosed with cancer and died in the early 90's. But this did not deter him from his love of the canals. He continued to cruise with his dog Pepper and often went with Janet, Simon, Raz, Lesley and myself on cruises, (we could all fit into one lock together.) He was always at the Wendover Canal Festival and enjoyed the company of other boaters telling tales over a pint of London Pride in the beer tent. As he got older his hearing started to go and it would be amusing to talk to him, you talking about one thing and him another, but the conversation flowing as if you were both talking about the same thing. The last trip he went on was the IWA Festival at Beale Park last summer. He still managed to get down to the beer tent in the evenings although his legs were going and his drinking had slowed. I never heard him talk ill of anybody and he will be a friend sadly missed by all by who knew him. A gentle word like summer rain, May sooth the heart and banish pain. Max Deverill.

This money has been earmarked for the bridge protectors.

Thankyou.

The Trust expresses its sincere thanks to two of our work party volunteers for contributions to Trust Funds. Dianne Edwards, who was a regular volunteer at scrub bashing until stopped by ill health, has given £100 towards restoration funds and Nigel Williams has sponsored the postage costs of our Work Party News, around £50, for 2004. Many thanks to you both.
